Why your export is the only honest way to check unfollows without handing over credentials
No login, no tokens, no third-party access to your account. Meta gives you the data - read it on your device and see the diff for yourself.
The cleanest way to check unfollows without handing over your Instagram login is to use Meta's official "Download Your Information" export and read the followers/following diff locally. No credentials, no API tokens shared with third parties, no account access granted. You download the files yourself and analyze them on your device.

The credential problem
If an app wants to show you "who unfollowed you" in real-time, it usually needs to stay logged in as you or pull your follower list repeatedly via API. That means:
- Credentials or tokens - Your login details or access tokens go to (or through) their service
- Permissions - Often broader than just reading followers/following
- Ongoing access - They can keep pulling data as long as connected
- Trust - You have to trust their security, logging, retention, and business model
Even if they say "read-only", you're still granting access to your account through a third party.
Why the export is different
Meta provides "Download your information" so you can get a copy of your data. That copy includes your followers and following lists at the time of export. You download it directly from Meta - no third-party app in the middle asking for your password.
When you load that export into a local-first tool like LMKFR, the analysis happens in your browser. In local mode, files are read on your device and nothing is uploaded. You can verify this is a local app - no account creation required to analyze an export.
How to do it (no login)
- Request your export - How to request your Instagram export. Choose JSON if available, request followers/following.
- Download when ready - Get the ZIP from Meta's email/link.
- Load in LMKFR - Open lmkfr.com and load your export. If you want to track changes, save exports over time and load two of them.
- Read the diff - See who unfollowed, who you unfollowed, and mutuals. See Find who unfollowed you for details.
The honest part
- No motive - The export won't tell you why. Neither will any tool. See Why unfollows sting.
- Snapshots, not live alerts - You need exports over time. That's the tradeoff for not giving up credentials.
- It's your data - You're not asking permission to look at your own followers/following lists; you're reading what you just downloaded.
